Education Policy and Management.

As Commodore's community school coordinator, Mike helps to implement programs and develop partnerships that

support the East Baltimore school's community school strategy. The strategy focuses on a variety of issues including (but

not limited to) attendance, financial literacy, health access, and youth development. Commodore partners with Anumber of different organizations, including SOURCE, to help bring this strategy to life. In particular, Commodore--an

increasingly diverse school--emphasizes the need for all programming and services to be available to all students and

families, regardless of race, religion, country of origin, or language.

Molly Rose Greenberg, MPH, RN, BSN

Molly is a Nurse Care Manager for the Behavioral Health Home at REACH Health Services

and a former student board member of SOURCE. Molly grew up in New Jersey, Illinois,

and California, but is a Baltimorean at heart and is fortunate to call Baltimore home. She is

grateful every day for her amazing patients and the support and encouragement of the

SOURCE family. Before moving to Baltimore to complete her nursing degree at JHU, Molly

received her MPH in Maternal and Child Health from George Washington University.

Molly connected with community organizations in DC that informed her perspective on health disparities and inspired

her to become an advocate for patients who have largely been underserved by the health care system. At REACH, Molly

works with individual patients and also on a population-based level to combat the stigmatization of patients with Ahistory of substance use. She supports patients with multiple chronic conditions and helps them to manage their health

through empowerment and education, as well as through whole-person care. Molly is dedicated to providing highquality,

compassionate, patient-centered care and to overcoming the health inequities, racism, and poverty that

contribute to poor health outcomes. She is looks forward to many opportunities to partner with SOURCE in the years to

come, and hopes to share her passion for combating injustice through public health nursing both as a health care

professional and as a committed and proud member of the Baltimore community.

Vaile Leonard

Founder and CEO, The Light of Truth Center

Reverend Vaile Leonard is the Founder/CEO of The Light of Truth Center, has been in the

recovery process for the past 22 years and has volunteered in several community service

positions. She is highly motivated with successful experience combining public service with

professional expertise providing the highest level of service to the community. She has Aproven track record of leadership and talent for visioning, coordinating, organizing individual

within the Human Services environment. Vaile is directly responsible for spearheading and holding the vision of the Light

of Truth Center as well as the development and implementation of a new facility and treatment program for women

recovering form addictions. Through her visionary efforts she develops people for the future by providing direct support

to residents by designing and facilitating skill-development programs, lessons in decision-making, communication, and

identifying and dealing with emotions. She handles fundraising and sponsorship efforts and supervises and provides Apositive workplace for all levels of volunteer staff.

Todd Marcus

A native of New Jersey, Todd Marcus has lived in Baltimore’s Sandtown-Winchester

community since 1997 where he has focused on his community work and music.

Marcus is currently the Executive Director of Intersection of Change (IOC), a nonprofit he

helped build with C.W. and Amelia Harris. The organization’s community development work is dedicated to providing

programs that enrich the economic, social and spiritual lives of those dealing with poverty related issues in the

Sandtown-Winchester and surrounding communities of west Baltimore.

Work to date has resulted in significant neighborhood revitalization of the 1900 and 2000 blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue

through the full renovation of six previously vacant and dilapidated buildings, transformation of 18 vacant lots into

community green spaces and meditative gardens, and the creation of a dozen neighborhood murals.

Programs at IOC include:

Martha's Place, a recovery program for women overcoming drug addiction and homelessness that offers both

six-month transitional and long-term independent housing phases. The program helps women achieve sobriety

while maintaining a job and housing and serves approximately 50 women per ye***

Jubilee Arts: A comprehensive art program that offers alternatives to the dangers of drugs and violence in the

community through art classes and projects that serve over 2,000 people annually.

As a musician, Marcus is a bass clarinetist, composer, and bandleader. He is one of the few jazz artists worldwide

to focus exclusively on use of the bass clarinet as a solo instrument. He actively leads several ensembles

including his Todd Marcus Jazz Orchestra, Quartet, Trio, and Duo and performs both nationally and

internationally.

Rebekah Lin Meyer

Rebekah Lin Meyer is the Director of Community Outreach and Volunteerism with Living

Classrooms Foundation. Living Classrooms is a nonprofit organization that strengthens

communities and inspires young people to achieve their potential through hands-on

education and job training, using urban, natural, and maritime resources as “living

classrooms.” Rebekah joined Living Classrooms in 2013 as part of the Development

Department. In her current role, she manages all of Living Classrooms’ volunteers, interns, and corporate

partnerships/days of service. Partnerships with individual volunteers, area businesses, schools, and universities play Acrucial role in ensuring that programs have the support they need to effectively serve children and families. These

partnerships also broaden the organization’s presence and reach in the community, ultimately bringing in new resour***

that contribute to success.

Rebekah is originally from Buffalo, NY, but has called Baltimore home for over a decade. She earned a BA in Writing

Seminars and History from Johns Hopkins University and a MA in Education Policy from George Washington University.

She has been working in Baltimore’s nonprofit community for eight years, previously having been with The After-School

Institute and Carson Scholars Fund. She is involved with Business Volunteers Maryland’s GIVE program and the

Baltimore chapter of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network.

Connie Phelps

Community School Coordinator, Wolfe Street Academy

Connie Phelps, LGSW, has been Community School Coordinator at Wolfe Street

Academy (WSA) since September 2006. Ms. Phelps is employed by the Social

Work Community Outreach Service (SWCOS) program of The University of

Maryland School of Social Work. As a SWCOS Field Instructor, she works with

social work interns and to implement the Community School model at WSA, Apublic charter elementary school in Upper Fells Point which serves a high-poverty, mostly immigrant population. Using

public schools as hubs, community schools bring together many partners - such as SOURCE! - to offer a range of

supports and opportunities to children, youth, families and communities. The integrated focus on academics, health and

social services, youth and community development and community engagement leads to improved student learning,

stronger families and healthier communities. A native Baltimorean, Ms. Phelps graduated from Hunter College School of

Social Work in 2000, and has worked in New York, Delaware and Baltimore with youth and immigrant populations. She

speaks fluent Spanish.

Jamille Pitts

Assistant Director, Youth Opportunity (YO!) Center, HEBCAC

Jamille joined the Historic East Baltimore Community Action Coalition

(HEBCAC) Youth Opportunities Baltimore program in November 2***

Jamille came on board as the Assistant Director, leading the team of

Employment Advocates who case manage the population of opportunity

youth. In her role, she has demonstrated a dedication to improving the

quality of life for the youth of east Baltimore City. Supporting youth

empowerment through educational opportunities as well as employment

opportunities, she is able to connect the YO population to countless

resources within the community. Jamille manages their program’s summer Youth Works program which is provided by

the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development; ensuring that eligible youth within the YO Baltimore HEBCAC program are

employed throughout the summer. Living in Baltimore since August 2005, Jamille began her career working with at-risk

youth in the foster care system. Working with youth in Baltimore that were placed in the foster care has developed in

her, the ability to advocate and bring resources to youth and young adults in need.

Mrs. Pitts is originally from North Carolina. She earned her B.A. in Sociology from North Carolina State University.

Currently, Jamille is a school counseling intern at Dundalk Middle School for Baltimore County Public Schools. Jamille is

studying school counseling at Johns Hopkins University, where she is a master’s degree candidate for May 18, 2***

Jamille strives to become an intervention for students dropping out of school as a school counselor.

A lifelong resident and community leader/activist of East Baltimore who continues

living in his childhood teachings: Family Values, Community Pride, Respect and

Loyalty. Glenn has worked under three Mayors of Baltimore City and coordinated

several city-wide program such as: Shape-up Baltimore, Mayor’s Campaign for ACleaner Baltimore, and Citizens Planning and Housing Association’s Neighborhoods Resource Bank to name a few.Glenn

has serve on numerous boards, committees and research programs/projects with the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions

over the last 22 years. He has served on countless Community Boards and Committees in East and Southeast Baltimore

in the last 26 years living in the McElderry Park Community. Glenn has been voted the “Best Community Activist”:

(Baltimore City Paper).Glenn has been a single parent with two lovely daughters for over 26 years and has six active

grandchildren who are taught the same family values as he did.Glenn’s knowledge in sanitation and environmental

issues, and health related practices has become his community organizing tools when working in disadvantage

neighborhoods. His vision is to educate residents and community stakeholders in: “How our environment affects our

health?”, as well as, “Breaking the disconnect” between Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and the East Baltimore

Communities by changing the game. The Environmental Justice Partnership Board has given Glenn the vehicle to use the

tools of his organizing skills to drive a new path towards educating East Baltimore residents and stakeholders to help

create a healthy environment to live, work and play in as well as the environment in side each and every one of us.

Larry Schugam

Larry Schugam is the Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer of

the Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP). Since 2005, he has overseen all aspects of

marketing, communications, development, partnership-building, and strategic

planning. Larry also serves as Assistant Secretary to the BCP Board of Directors.

Before joining BCP, Mr. Schugam served as a program assistant for the Job Opportunities Task Force, where he engaged

in lobbying state legislators and conducting policy research. From 2000-2003 he served as Computer Center Director for

the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.

Mr. Schugam earned a Masters of Social Work from the University of Maryland with a concentration in Management

and Community Organization in 2005 and has an extensive background in information technology and music.
